Welcome to the Port Campbell Hostel, the newest backpacker hostel on Victoria’s famous Great Ocean Road. Our hostel offers exceptionally well valued accommodation for backpackers in the heart of the Port Campbell National Park, home of what are arguably the most photographed coastal attractions in Australia such as the London Bridge, Loch Ard Gorge and the iconic Twelve Apostles.
Our hostel sits in the middle of Port Campbell, a rustic, colourful little village of about 400 people that as the latest Lonely Planet “Guide to Melbourne and Victoria” said…
…”is poised on a dramatic, almost perfectly rectangular natural bay eroded from the surrounding limestone cliffs. Port Campbell is a friendly town with some great bargain accommodation options, and makes an ideal spot for debriefing after the Twelve Apostles. The tiny bay has a lovely sandy beach, the only safe place for swimming along this tempestuous coast”.
Our hostel is famously located only 12 km down the road from the 12 Apostles (“12 ks, from the 12 As”), at the western end of the Great Ocean Road, a perfect place to end your 1-day road-trip from Melbourne (PC-Melbourne, via the Great Ocean Road (B100) is 290 km/180 mi).
Our hostel opened in November, 2009. We provide clean, modern, budget accommodation for backpackers and independent travellers on the Great Ocean Road in a hostel that attracts excellent ratings and reviews on popular backpacker sites such as hostelworld, hostelbookers and the worlds largest travel site, tripadvisor. (And for something we are very proud of… we consistently rank as one of the cleanest hostel’s in Australia!)
Our hostel also regularly hosts backpacker groups travelling with some of Australia’s most popular adventure backpacker tour companies, such as passengers travelling with Topdeck Tours on their Melbourne-Adelaide 3-day/2-night tour, and Ride Tours for their one-night stopover on their 2-day GOR adventure.
In addition to enjoying all the natural benefits that the Port Campbell National Park offers, the district also throws up heaps of things to do… particularly for those who’re prepared to explore a little off the beaten track!
Great Ocean Walk 100s . Apollo Bay – Twelve Apostles. For the past couple of years, the hostel has (figuratively speaking!) laced up a rancid old pair of Nikes and stepped out to help with the GOW100s, an ultra-distance running race that follows the route of the Great Ocean Walk from Apollo Bay to the Twelve Apostles. Last year’s event was held mid-October and, like earlier “100s”, turned out to be a beauty! If you would like a little more info about this truely amazing event, click here … the GOW100s is certainly NOT something you do if you have a low pain threshold!
